Welcome! Whether you are here to create a Buddy Walk team, join a team, support a team financially, or register for the walk, DSAL is glad to have you!
The Buddy Walk® program was established to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome and to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October. The Buddy Walk is an opportunity for anyone and everyone to walk — or support a walker — and raise funds for the Down Syndrome Association of the Lowcountry and the National Down Syndrome Society.

Birds that feast on carrion are largely unappreciated and often misunderstood. Stephen Schrabel, director of education at The Center for Birds of Prey, will shed light on a vital part of the ecosystem that is never given a second thought. This presentation will include a live bird demonstration.

Toddler Time is a great shared experience for child and parent. A time for your little ones to discover the joy of being active, bouncing under the supervision of their parents, and without interference from the big kids.
Weather permitting, Lowcountry Stargazers will host "Astronomy in the Park" at Brittlebank Park, most Wednesdays from sunset until 9pm (10pm DST), weather permitting. Stop by after work or before dinner and see what the universe has to offer. Our members will have a telescope or two set up, and will be available to answer your questions about the night sky.
We will set up at the north end of the park opposite the Marriott Hotel, and for those attending, we ask that you park in designated parking spaces, and not on the grass.

Book lovers and bargain hunters are in for a real treat when the Charleston Friends of the Library host its 37th annual That BIG Book Sale, October 12-14, at the Omar Shrine Auditorium. Over 60,000 books, DVDs, CDs, books on CDs, sheet music and maps will be on sale to the public with prices starting at just $.50. For the price of one movie ticket or one new paperback book, shoppers can walk out with a basket full of books, DVDs and CDs that they can enjoy over and over again, or pass on to a friend.

We're different after dark. Lasers, music and blacklight transform the whole park into a crazy jumping dance club. Flips are limited to Foam Zone during Glow. Waivers are required for all persons entering the park during Glow.

Held on a large polo field just minutes from downtown Charleston, join dozens of vendors, chefs, local musicians, artists, cooking demonstrations, pop-up art galleries, PLUS food and alcohol tasting partners.
Weather permitting, Saturday will include a morning launch and evening glows and tethered rides. Not just about the balloons, Saturday will include Live Music, a Wine Tasting Tent, a Battle of the Chefs Tasting Competition, Polo Matches and a kids play area!
Beginner Road Ride for all riders interested in learning about group bike rides. We will provide a ride leader who will lead you on the route, answer questions, and assist with mechanical issues. Learn about the rules of the road, how to ride in a paceline, and basic bike maintenance skills, including how to fix a flat tire! All rides start and end at the store. We will have post ride coffee and snacks.
Helmets are required. We highly suggest a front and rear blinking light.

Three agencies, The Old Santee Canal Park, the Berkeley County Historical Society, and the Berkeley County Museum and Heritage Center have partnered to put on our very first pirate festival. Our mission is to provide opportunities for the public of all-ages to learn about South Carolina’s rich colonial and maritime history; with an emphasis on the Golden Age of Piracy.

In celebration of National Fire Prevention Week, Oct 7th-13th, 2018, North Charleston Fire Department is hosting a Family Fun Day for this year’s theme "Look. Listen. Learn. Be Aware. Fire can happen anywhere.”
Our annual event will be held on Saturday, October 13th from 10 am to 2 pm at the North Charleston American LaFrance Fire Museum in conjunction with Tanger Outlet.

Festival benefits Helping Hands of Goose Creek- attendees are encouraged to bring canned goods to donate to Helping Hands. Parking and admission are free.
We are having a dress up multi-themed party at Crosswind Farm on October 13th, 11 am to 1 pm. No scary costumes please as we will have young kids in attendance. We charge for kids 12 months and up. There’s a lot to do for toddlers. Adults are free.
